First Day at the New Daycare

We are so relieved that Silas started at his new daycare today.  Not that there was anything wrong with his old daycare.  They served us well keeping Silas safely busy for the last four weeks, but they had so many kids, they just didn't pay attention to details.  They could barely keep track of diaper changes, and never managed to report what he ate and drank during the day.   The teachers there couldn't even spell Silas' name right.  Plus, all the toys were broken!  So, suffice it to say, we are thrilled that he is finally at the new center, which just opened last week, and is less than a mile from our house.
Before Silas and Brian headed out this morning, I gave Silas his new lunchbox, so I could take a picture.   I've never seen a kid his age so excited about a lunchbox.  As you can see, to him, it's about the size of a suitcase.  Apparently, he insisted on carrying it from the car into his classroom, and wouldn't even give it to the teachers after Brian left.  No one was going to take his lunchbox away.
Finally, after about 30 minutes of protecting the lunchbox, the teachers gathered everyone up to go to the playground, and only then did he give it up.
These photographs are courtesy of the daycare center.  His teacher sent me an email this afternoon giving me an update with these photos. It was a very pleasant surprise.
At the end of the day, we got a narrative report including this comment from his teachers:
Silas had a wonderful first day!  :)  He settled very well with his classmates.  Silas loved the playground and gave his teachers a "high five" every time he came down the slide.

That's success in our books!
