More Ear Stuff

Today, we had our follow up appointment with the ENT.  The good news:  Silas new left ear tube is clear!  The bad news:  the right one was still blocked.  :(  We were given the option of leaving it alone, and Silas just dealing with the fluid accumulation behind the eardrum (and the hearing loss and infections that result), or doing another in-office tube replacement under local anesthetic.  While Silas did not like being restrained during the last procedure, it was relatively fast (about 10 minutes), and the result was worth it.   We went with the latter option knowing that improved hearing will facilitate his speech development.  Well, we are very glad we went with that option.  This time, it only took about 2 minutes for the doctor to replace the tube.  It was over before Silas even knew what was happening.

Hopefully, that will be it for doctors for a while.  Silas' palate is looking really good.  The stitches have dissolved, and it has healed well.  We're still not sure if there are open areas, but if there are, they aren't bothering Silas.  We will probably wait to do any further repairs until the next surgery at age 3 (if necessary to facilitate speech) or at age 7.
